You will no doubt be aware from various articles in the newspapers and news items on your TV that the government are intending to implement a number of different reforms affecting the funding of legal work.
The result of this is, where you once may have qualified for legal aid to help you in your legal dealings you may find that you either no longer qualify for legal aid, or that legal aid has been withdrawn from the area of legal work you need help with.
Even if you would not have qualified for legal aid, or needed help with legal work in an area where legal aid had already been withdrawn (such as a claim for personal injury compensation) you could still find yourself affected by these proposed changes – and not for the better. In a claim for personal injury compensation these new proposals will mean that you will have to contribute towards your legal costs as the proposals are seeking to restrict the costs that will be recovered from the Defendants – the government’s intention is that your contribution will be deducted from the compensation you receive, so you will be worse off under these proposals if they become law.
