Have you been attacked by someone else’s dog either in the home our out in public?  The owner of the dog is responsible for that dog’s behaviour and any injuries inflicted upon other people by it.

If the dog is known to be aggressive then steps should be taken by the dog owner to minimise the risk of the dog taking its aggression out on other people by ensuring it is kept on a lead and/or that a muzzle is fitted to the dog.  Dog attacks, especially on children can cause serious and sometimes, sadly, fatal injuries.

Here at HilliersHRW Solicitors LLP our specialist lawyers can help you make a claim for compensation for injuries sustained in a dog attack.  If you or someone you know has been attacked by a dog at any time within the last three years and sustained injury, then contact us and we will help you to claim compensation.

Useful Tips

  • Get the details of the owner and/or person walking the dog to include address and telephone number
  • Make a note of the breed of dog, any distinct features and if possible its name
  • Make a note of the location, date and time of the attack
  • Report the attack to the Police
  • Seek medical treatment for your injuries
  • Take photographs of your injuries

You should always ensure that any dog attacks are reported to the Police. Whilst the dog owner may tell you that the attack upon you is so out of character for their dog and they have never attacked before, a call to the police can easily disprove this, or if there has been no previous attack, noted in Police Records to register your attack, so if it happens again, the dog is known to the police.

You may have been attacked by or involved in an incident involving an animal other than a dog, if that is the case we may still be able to help so please contact us at your earliest opportunity to discuss the options open to you.  You can telephone us on (01234) 858000 (Kempston) or 01438 346000 (Stevenage) and ask to speak to Julie McCallion or Selina Martin, or alternatively, use our on-line claim enquiry form.
