The population in the UK take millions of holidays each year and many of these are abroad.  Given the numbers, it is therefore not surprising that some people find themselves involved in an accident whilst on holiday.  This can range from being involved in a road traffic accident whilst being transferred to or from the airport to having a slip or trip accident in your hotel accommodation or even suffering with food poisoning or other such illness due to poor conditions.

If you have been involved in an accident or have become ill whilst on holiday we may be able to help you recover compensation for those injuries and/or illness.  In circumstances where your holiday forms part of a package holiday then you may be able to claim the compensation from the tour operator with whom you booked the holiday.

If you are injured whilst on a plane, boat or train special rules may apply affecting the time limits within which you are entitled to make your claim, for example if your are injured whilst on a plane, embarking or disembarking the relevant time period is two years from the date of the accident.

Useful tips

  • Seek appropriate medical treatment.
  • If your holiday as been booked as a package holiday report the accident to your holiday representative as soon as possible and they complete the relevant accident forms and get a copy
  • Make sure your accident is recorded in the relevant accident book.
  • You should also report the accident to whoever is responsible for the accident location or activity organiser.
  • Take down details of any witnesses including names and addresses.
  • You might need to notify your own travel insurance company.
  • Take photographs and if possible video footage of the accident location.
  • Take photographs of the injuries you have sustained.
  • Make a detailed note of the exact circumstances of your accident.
